Frequently Asked Questions

Your people, in your hands — a private, searchable directory built from your own data and deployed to your own server. Here's how it works.

What is Paul's Friends?

A custom-built personal directory service. It turns your own data — a Facebook friends export, Google contacts, and other personal exports — into a fast, searchable, editable web app, deployed to your own server and owned outright. Think of it as an external memory for the relationships that matter.

What data can it use?

Whatever you already have a copy of — most commonly a Facebook friends export and your Google contacts, plus other personal exports. Your data is the source; nothing is scraped and nothing is bought.

Where does it live, and who owns it?

On your own server, owned outright — not a subscription service holding your contacts hostage. It's your directory, your data, your box.

Why does this matter now, with AI?

Because AI assistants are starting to act on your address book. Before an agent reads your relationships, the copy it reads should be the one you curate and control — accurate, private, and yours.

Is my data private?

Yes — privacy by design. It lives on your server, under your control, not pooled into anyone else's platform.

Can I edit and search it?

Yes — it's a full web app: fast search, and editable entries so you can keep it current.

What does it cost?

It's a custom build, so pricing depends on scope. See Specs & pricing for the details, or reach out through Contact.

How long have you been doing this?

Paul has been running community networks and building for people on the web since 1996 — this is that experience, pointed at your own address book.
